Parkinson to depart health care association; Perl to succeed Miller at human genetics group; more departures and arrivals

Parkinson to step down in 2025

Mark Parkinson will step down from his role as president and CEO of the American Health Care Association/National Center for Assisted Living on Jan. 15, 2025. 

“As AHCA/NCAL’s president and CEO for the last 13 years, Mark has been an incredible leader for our association, our members, and the long term care sector at large. Mark’s contributions to our association and sector are unmatched, and we cannot thank him enough for his unwavering dedication to improving the lives of our nation’s seniors. He will be deeply missed,” said Phil Scalo, chair of the American Health Care Association Board of Governors.

Parkinson has led the organization since 2011. Previously, he was the 45th governor of Kansas.

The AHCA/NCAL Board of Directors has begun its search for Parkinson’s successor.

CEO Arrivals

Perl takes top role at genetics group

The American Society of Human Genetics announced Amanda Perl has been selected as ASHG’s next CEO, effective May 14. She will succeed Mona Miller, who announced last year her intent to step down. 

“We are confident (Amanda) is well positioned to lead the association as it continues to grow, succeed and elevate the human genetics and genomics community. She is a dynamic leader who will bring the perfect blend of leadership and association experience to not only build upon our momentum, but to propel us even further forward,” said ASHG President Bruce D. Gelb.

Perl was most recently executive director of the American Thyroid Association for three years. Previously, she spent five years at the Endocrine Society as chief strategy officer and later chief global member engagement officer. She also worked for the Institute of Food Technologists for nine years.

She has a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies from American University.

Jackson to lead museum group

The American Alliance of Museums has appointed Marilyn Jackson president and CEO, effective April 2024. AAM’s Chief of Staff Brooke Leonard has led on an interim basis since the departure of Laura Lott in June 2023. Lott led the organization for eight years before joining the National Gallery of Art as administrator and COO.

“Marilyn brings the right combination of museum, nonprofit, higher education, foundation and organizational experience. A creative and forward-thinking leader, I am confident that she will lead AAM to even greater success in the years ahead,” said Jorge Zamanillo, chair of AAM’s Board of Directors.

Jackson is currently president and CEO of the Muhammad Ali Center, where she has spent the past two years. Previously, she was chief strategy and engagement officer of the United Way of Chicago and vice president of marketing and membership at the Chicago Architecture Foundation.

She has a bachelor’s degree in biology and sociology from Cornell University and a master’s degree in marketing and strategy from Northwestern University.

Staff Departures

Consumer Technology AssociationGlenda MacMullin will retire as COO and CFO of CTA at year end following 20 years with the group. She joined CTA in 2004 as CFO before being promoted to COO/CFO in 2012. Prior to joining CTA, she was director of accounting services at the American Bar Association.

National Music Publishers’ AssociationAmelia Binder has left her role as senior vice president of government affairs at NMPA to join media and technology company Axel Springer as vice president of U.S. government affairs.

CFP BoardLisa Davis has appointed chief program officer of CFP Board. She was most recently senior vice president of programs and advocacy at nonprofit Share Our Strength. Previously, she spent five years at Feeding America and nine years at AARP.

Motion Picture AssociationJonathan Powell has joined MPA as senior vice president for strategic communications. He was most recently a senior adviser and speechwriter to deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman.

National Automobile Dealers Association—NADA announced several leadership transitions.

Paul Metrey has been promoted from senior vice president of regulatory affairs to executive vice president of public policy. Andy Koblenz has been named executive vice president of strategic affairs and industry initiatives. Jim Minnis is now general counsel at the organization. Daniel Ingber has been promoted to senior vice president of regulatory affairs.
